This happens to me all the time...

I just finished blogging the NY Times article on Robert Matson.

I leave the house and as I'm heading north on the Hudson River Bikeway I run into Robert Matson from the article I just posted!

He was riding a very funny looking contraption with a tiny seat.

He was really interested in the Organic Engines SUV Cargo that I was riding and he just had to take it for a spin!

I love my cargo bike!! 

Our regular Sunday morning jaunt down to Brighton beach Starring  

Burt, the wire haired dachshund.

I acquired Burt - or he acquired me - a couple of years ago and he wasn't able to keep up with the bike. I tried a trailer but he barked incessantly. He seems to like the xtracycle though. I've tried a few methods, but the baby bath is the ideal dimensions.
My boyfriend is a cycle courier, carrying loads. They also use trailers, cargo bikes and did have a maximus trike. He's using a bullit at present.

Not so small!

Wow my first flatbed job!
That's Mark the customer he chased me down on the bikeway last week and asked if I'd do the job for him. Didn't know these things weight close to 200lbs! When we tried to get it on the dolly we could barley lift it 2 inches off the ground.

We finally got it loaded from the side....cause we were worried about flipping the trike by putting all that weight on the rear!

Whew!

Mark rode behind making sure all was OK and giving a nice boost once in a while by pushing !.

We arrived at west 86th st intact , was a very slow ride but not as bad as I thought it would be...Organic Engines SUV is totally amazing!!!

Funny thing about the perception of speed with no motor, I could tell someone that my bike can cruise at 

40 mph

They just laugh ...the public just can't seem to make the connection!

I might as well say it goes 

80 mph!

Wonder if that would get a bigger laugh?

Organic Engines Pedicab

I love having my Organic Engines cargo trike.....

But boy do I miss my pedicab! Here are the last riders before the cargo conversion.
I went to a playground in Williamsburg to visit the in -laws as usual all the kids in the playground ran out and climbed in!

After receiving numerous constituent complaints, my office studied bike lane use in neighborhoods throughout Manhattan. The verdict was clear: while bike lanes bring a tremendous benefit to New York City, misuse by all parties— motorists, pedestrians and cyclists —undermines their success. Over 22 hours my staff observed more than 1,700 infractions ranging from motor vehicles driving through the lanes and pedestrian use to cyclists going the wrong direction.

Today I announced the results of this unprecedented study, entitled Respect the Bike Lane and Clear the Path, and proposed several key recommendations to improve bike lane safety including increased enforcement, a public education campaign on dooring, and reserving parking spots for deliveries along commercial streets to discourage potential bike lane blockages

Guys You Need to Know if You Want to Open a Wine Store: A Delivery Guy

Delivery service is the bane of any small wine store. You want to offer the service to your customers because 1) they like it. 2) everybody else does so it’s necessary to be competitive and 3) you can sell more cases if customers don’t have to worry about how to get them home.

Bigger stores can have a stock/delivery guy on staff. But I’m not big enough to warrant that expense. Not yet at least. But my business has grown to the point that it’s inefficient to have my wine sales staff running around lower Manhattan with a hand truck. Not that that doesn’t still happen. But at some point, most wine stores eventually need another option. And that option is usually an outside delivery service.
